Former Mexico international Hirving “Chucky” Lozano is reportedly finalizing a loan deal to join the LA Galaxy from San Diego FC, according to sources for ESPN.
The agreement would see Lozano become a Designated Player (DP) for the Galaxy through the end of the 2026 season, with an option to make the transfer permanent next year.
Lozano last appeared for San Diego in November 2025 but has since been excluded from matchday squads following a fallout with his club. Earlier this year, a source revealed that tensions boiled over into a shouting match between Lozano and head coach Mikey Varas last October during their training sessions.
San Diego’s sporting director Tyler Heaps indicated that Lozano was not part of the team’s plans for the upcoming 2026 season. Lozano himself mentioned last December that he wouldn’t consider offers during the winter transfer window.
In the 2025 season, Lozano made a significant impact by scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists in 31 matches.
Due to a lack of regular playing time and training, Lozano was omitted from Mexico’s World Cup roster, as the co-hosts reached the round of 16 during this summer’s tournament in North America.
Since making his debut for Mexico in 2016, Lozano has scored 18 goals in 75 appearances, including a notable game-winning goal against Germany during the 2018 World Cup. A product of the Pachuca academy in Liga MX, he transitioned to Europe, playing for clubs such as PSV Eindhoven and Napoli before joining San Diego for their inaugural MLS season in 2025.
With the Galaxy, Lozano aims to rediscover his form and inject energy into the Southern California team, which currently sits in 12th place in the Western Conference.
The Galaxy’s next match is an away fixture against the Houston Dynamo on August 15.
