However, in a recent update, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano dismissed these rumors, confirming that Barcelona has not made any concrete moves to acquire Lautaro Martinez.
This statement follows a day after Diario SPORT also rejected the speculation, clarifying that the club is not considering the Inter Milan forward this summer.

This comes at a time when Barcelona is urgently seeking a new number nine, and should the Alvarez deal fall through, they may find themselves without any strikers heading into the new season.
With Ferran Torres potentially leaving to join PSG, and Robert Lewandowski having departed after the conclusion of his contract, the forward line is looking thin.

Romano confirmed that the Catalan club had considered Lautaro in the past, particularly during the pandemic when they were in search of a new striker.

They were keen on signing him due to his impressive scoring abilities at Inter Milan during that period.
Though Lautaro has maintained his goal-scoring prowess at Inter, he is not viewed as tactically adaptable enough for Hansi Flick’s system.
While Lautaro’s playing style is more akin to that of Robert Lewandowski than Alvarez, Barcelona seems inclined to pursue a more versatile forward like Alvarez, which they believe will enhance their attacking capabilities for the upcoming season.
