Having clinched the La Liga title, FC Barcelona is now focused on shaping its roster for the 2026-27 season. One of the pressing issues is the future of several players, among them Marcus Rashford.
Barcelona has begun exploring ways to retain the English forward, starting from the stance that they are unwilling to activate the €30 million buy option.

Aston Villa’s Interest in Rashford
In the ongoing discussions, Barça is aware of Unai Emery’s desire to sign Rashford for Aston Villa, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Rashford previously spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Villa Park under Emery and performed reasonably well.
Having spent half a season on loan at Villa last year, Rashford played a crucial role, and with Aston Villa still in contention for a Champions League spot, Emery appears keen to bring him back this summer.
Nevertheless, Rashford’s priority is to explore every option to remain at Spotify Camp Nou, either through a permanent deal or an additional loan arrangement.

The English winger wants to stay at Barça at all costs and feels confident he is doing enough to secure that chance. Manager Hansi Flick has also indicated support for Rashford’s continuation.
What’s Next for Rashford?
Rashford has made notable contributions to Barcelona’s attack this season, netting 14 goals and providing 12 assists.
Given his impressive statistics and overall impact, the main concern within the club revolves around his understanding of the team’s tactical structure and playing style.

Under contract with Manchester United until 2028, a return to Old Trafford seems unlikely even with Michael Carrick set to be confirmed as the permanent manager.

Barcelona is contemplating another loan proposal to bypass the €30 million buy clause, but Manchester United has made it clear they are not open to further loan options. It remains to be seen how the situation will evolve and if Barcelona will retain Rashford beyond this season.
