Barcelona encounters…

In January, Barcelona secured the loan signing of Joao Cancelo from Al Hilal on a temporary six-month deal, and the Portuguese international impressed under coach Hansi Flick.

Initially, fans were doubtful about signing a player in his 30s who had spent nearly two seasons in Saudi Arabia.

However, Cancelo quickly silenced critics with his strong performances at left-back, ultimately taking the starting position from Alejandro Balde by season’s end.

Barcelona is understandably keen to retain the Portuguese defender permanently. Unfortunately, according to Mundo Deportivo, talks between Barcelona and Al Hilal have stagnated in recent weeks.

This stagnation is concerning for Barcelona, as clarity on various squad situations is desired ahead of the pre-season.

For much of the past year, it was anticipated that Barcelona would eventually seek to retain Cancelo beyond his loan.

The defender has become an important tactical option for Flick. His ability to play right-back, left-back, and even move into midfield during possession has been valuable.

However, Barcelona’s interest must align with financial realities; any agreement with Al Hilal would need to be feasible for the club.

Currently, there seems to be a disconnect between the two sides, and negotiations require progress.

Barcelona is becoming increasingly concerned as this situation appears uncertain. The club has multiple priorities to address this summer.

While Flick holds Cancelo in high regard, sporting admiration alone won’t suffice to finalize the deal.

As the situation continues without resolution, Barcelona may be compelled to consider alternative options. For now, Cancelo’s future remains wide open.

Unless progress is made in negotiations soon, this transfer saga could extend well into the summer window’s closing period.
