Nils-Ole Book, the sporting director of Borussia Dortmund, has stated in an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten that a summer departure for Felix Nmecha isn’t completely off the table, given the ongoing interest from Newcastle United. While Book acknowledged that exceptionally high offers can be a factor, he feels that a transfer within the current window is quite unlikely.
According to L’Équipe, Newcastle has identified Nmecha as a potential candidate to replace Bruno Guimarães should he leave for Arsenal. With reports suggesting that an agreement has been reached between Arsenal and Newcastle regarding Guimarães’s transfer to the Emirates, speculation linking Nmecha with the Magpies is expected to grow. However, no formal offer or direct negotiations with Dortmund have been reported as of yet.
Dortmund Values Felix Nmecha Highly
Nmecha signed a contract extension through 2030 in March, which includes an €80 million release clause that will take effect in 2027, decreasing to €70 million the following year. These clauses cannot be activated during the current transfer window, meaning any deal would require direct negotiations with Dortmund, who have reportedly set an asking price of around €100 million for an immediate sale.
Despite the interest, Book is optimistic that Nmecha will stay with the club. “I would consider that [a transfer] highly unlikely,” he said, adding, “Of course, there can theoretically always be astronomical offers, but in Felix’s case, I can fairly safely rule it out this summer.”
