Sky Sports will show 25 live matches kicking off at 15:00 BST on Saturday from the Championship, League One and League Two in the UK.
That slot is normally off limits because of the ‘3pm blackout’, which bans domestic broadcasts of games played between 14:45 and 17:15.
The rule derives from Uefa’s Article 48, allowing a national association to set ‘blocked hours’ during which matches cannot be shown domestically.
At the request of the Premier League and the English Football League, the Football Association enforces this blackout in line with Article 48.
Article 48 applies only when at least 50% of fixtures in a country’s top two divisions are played simultaneously. In England, that threshold is 11 matches.
With the Premier League not in action this weekend and only six Championship games starting at 15:00, the threshold is not met, so all of those fixtures can be broadcast live in the UK.
Additionally, nine League One and 10 League Two matches kick off at the same time. All 25 games will air live on Sky Sports.
The traditional ‘3pm blackout’ will return when the Premier League resumes on the weekend of 22-23 August.
England’s use of Article 48 will be reviewed when the next TV rights cycle is agreed. The current deal runs until the end of the 2028-29 season.
