Cesc Fabregas expressed pride in Como’s performance during their nail-biting 4-3 defeat against Inter, highlighting the team’s bravery and competitiveness against top-tier opponents. However, he noted that he does not pay attention to the league standings.
The match at Stadio Sinigaglia started off exceptionally well for Fabregas, with Como leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Alex Valle and Nico Paz.

Despite their promising start, the Nerazzurri showcased their clinical finishing, turning the game around in the second half with two goals each from Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries, ultimately claiming a 4-3 victory.
A late penalty from Lucas Da Cunha could not alter the outcome, and even a shot from Alberto Moreno that hit the crossbar in stoppage time wasn’t enough to salvage a point.

“I haven’t looked at the table since the start of the season, and I won’t start now,” Fabregas told DAZN Italia.
“Once again, my team showed its courage and determination. Even in defeat, there was character. We did make mistakes, but this is a young team, and facing a side like Inter means mistakes can be costly.”
“I’m not keen to discuss tactics since our performance spoke volumes. It’s impressive that not many teams manage 20 shots on goal against Inter.”
“If someone had told me two years ago that we’d be able to challenge Inter like this, I would have thought we were just having a friendly, but now we’re competing on level ground.”

The match dynamic shifted when Thuram scored just before half-time, igniting Inter’s spirits.
“That’s why mental strength supersedes tactical discussions,” Fabregas acknowledged.
“There was a communication breakdown between Valle and Perrone, which allowed them to break through. Going into halftime, I stressed the importance of continuing our style regardless of the score.”
“Even after the equalizer, we found ourselves in a challenging situation, which we didn’t handle well. Inter are a powerhouse—though we made some good counter-attacks, they excel at set pieces, which is evident against any team. Competing against Inter today marks a vital step in our development.”

Fabregas deployed an unexpectedly aggressive strategy, with players like Sergi Roberto pulling Piotr Zielinski out of position to exploit Alessandro Bastoni.
“We will face Inter again in 10 days, and we prepare for matches differently, so I won’t elaborate on our strategies right now,” Fabregas said regarding the team’s approach to the next clash.
“I am immensely proud of my players. Since our very first day two and a half years ago, I’ve witnessed our progress. There’s a clear drive to improve and to confidently face any adversary.”
Previously, Fabregas had held Inter to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final last month, with the return leg set for April 21.

However, they suffered a 4-0 loss in Serie A back in December, making this recent performance a notable improvement.

Fabregas concluded, “Mistakes are part of the game—they can accelerate growth by prompting reflection rather than allowing complacency. This holds true both in football and in life.”
“The team left everything on the pitch; it’s unfortunate to lose. After reflecting on my previous comments, I realize the focus should be on performance over results, and I won’t repeat that mistake.”

“This was a strong showing, and we won’t stop now. With six matches remaining plus the Coppa Italia, we’ll see where this journey takes us.”

This result has pushed Como down to fifth place, trailing Juventus by two points, with the race for Champions League spots remaining highly competitive.
Only six points separate Milan in third and Roma in sixth with six matches left and several direct encounters on the horizon.
