Together with Djeidi Gassama, the recent arrival from Girona was Rangers’ most effective attacker in an overall display that lacked quality both in and out of possession.
McInnes said he had to bide his time to secure the £8.5m signing and believes Kim brings a badly needed lift in quality.
Despite Kim’s encouraging start, Boyd questioned the club’s recruitment strategy and the continued absence of Nicolas Raskin. The Belgian missed out amid speculation over his future, but McInnes insisted no bids have been received. Boyd argued that if there are no offers on the table, Raskin should be playing, calling him comfortably Rangers’ best midfielder. He also highlighted the size of the squad—more than 30 players—as unsustainable, saying five to seven departures are needed before the window shuts. Beyond the forward line, he added, the team still lacks a creative link to connect midfield and attack.
McInnes was, however, more forthcoming about an imminent addition up front. He declined to name the target, though Rangers have been linked with a big-money move for Portland Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy as they seek cover following Youssef Chermiti’s long-term injury. “We’re still reacting to the Youssef situation,” McInnes said, adding that they are close and hopeful of completing the deal before Wednesday’s trip to Falkirk.
