Sunderland’s Director of Football, Florent Ghisolfi, has expressed confidence in new signing Malick Fofana, stating that he has “all the attributes to thrive in the Premier League.”
The Black Cats have secured Fofana, who was also on the radar of Crystal Palace, in a deal valued at £30 million, after he previously had connections with Arsenal, bringing him over from Lyon.
Fofana becomes the fifth summer signing for Sunderland and has committed to a long-term contract at the Stadium of Light.
“Malick has all the qualities needed to succeed in the Premier League,” Ghisolfi remarked. “He is a player with immense potential, and Sunderland AFC will offer him the ideal environment to continue his growth and success.”
Starting his career at KAA Gent before moving to Lyon in 2024, Fofana netted 19 goals and recorded eight assists in 84 appearances for the Ligue 1 club.
“He mainly plays on the left wing, adding depth to our options with other versatile wingers who can operate on both sides,” Ghisolfi noted. “We are thrilled to welcome Malick to the team and look forward to aiding him in the next phase of his career.”
