Jersey Ends Perfect Season…

The women’s team from Jersey celebrated a flawless season by clinching victory in the Cherry Godfrey Cup.

Representing the Jersey Bulls, the island team won every match in their inaugural season of English league football and went on to defeat Guernsey 6-1 in the Muratti Vase last month.

In the semi-final, Jersey triumphed 3-0 over the Isle of Wight in Guernsey, with goals from Sofia Rodrigues, Roisin Flynn, and Holly Sundby securing their spot in the final.

Jersey then faced the defending champions, the Isle of Man, and emerged victorious 6-5 in a penalty shootout after the match concluded in a 1-1 draw at Victoria Park. Tiff Sundby scored the decisive penalty following Natasha Keen’s equalizer in the 88th minute.

“Isle of Man has always been our benchmark, consistently featuring in medal matches at the Island Games and having won this title a couple of years back,” said Jersey manager Chad Morris in an interview with BBC Radio Jersey.

“It was a very challenging, physical match, and you have to match and exceed that level to gain a foothold in the game. This season, many of our players have won every game they’ve played, which speaks volumes.”

“I won’t lie, I can’t imagine a better feeling than lifting the trophy on Guernsey soil.”
