Manchester United Women have officially appointed Eva Olid as their new head coach, signing her to a two-year contract with an option for an additional year.
This decision comes after Marc Skinner’s departure by mutual consent earlier this week, concluding his five-year tenure with the team.
Olid joins the Women’s Super League team after successfully leading Heart of Midlothian to their first-ever Scottish Women’s Premier League title in May, marking a significant milestone in her coaching career.
Expressing her excitement for the new position, the Spanish coach remarked: “Becoming the head coach of Manchester United Women is a dream come true. The club boasts exceptional infrastructure and everything necessary to achieve our aspirations. We have top-notch training facilities, an academy producing players capable of competing at the highest level, and an outstanding support team.”
She further emphasized her commitment to player development: “Our squad is already brimming with talent, and I am eager to help the players reach their full potential. Manchester United described Olid’s arrival as the beginning of an “exciting new era,” reinforcing the club’s commitment to a “clear vision for long-term, sustainable growth and success.”
During Skinner’s leadership, the Red Devils secured a fourth-place finish in the WSL last season and reached the Champions League quarter-finals, achievements the club recognized as laying “important foundations.”
Matt Johnson, the director of women’s football at United, praised Olid’s strengths: “Eva is an exceptional coach with a strong desire to succeed. Her impressive accomplishments at Heart of Midlothian demonstrated her ability to unlock players’ potential while also fostering an engaging style of play. Olid’s debut competitive match will be the WSL season opener against London City Lionesses on September 4.
