Barcelona has successfully secured Spanish midfield talent Rodri, although the outcome wasn’t always certain.
For a significant portion of the summer, the 30-year-old seemed destined for a move to Madrid, potentially joining Jose Mourinho’s squad this season.
According to journalist Juanfe Sanz from El Chiringuito TV, Real Madrid made a serious attempt to bring the Spanish midfielder to the Bernabeu before he ultimately made his decision.
Reports indicate that Los Blancos offered approximately €45 million to acquire the Manchester City star.
Real Madrid pursued Rodri
Madrid’s interest became evident when Rodri expressed a desire to return to his home country.
The Spanish club was ready to put €45 million on the table in hopes of securing his transfer.
However, Manchester City’s ultimate demands required a much larger investment, and Barcelona was willing to go further financially to sign him.

The revelation of Madrid’s offer highlights that Barça not only outpaced Madrid’s interest but also surpassed their bid.
Rodri ultimately favored Barcelona
From Barcelona’s perspective, Rodri’s final choice was evident.
The Spain international opted for the Blaugrana project despite Madrid’s overtures, suggesting that the financial proposals were quite similar.
This makes his choice particularly gratifying for Barça.
Rodri saw a clearer sporting fit in Barcelona, where Hansi Flick can immediately integrate him into a system that suits his strengths.
Although he could have had a significant role at Madrid, the project’s stability appears less assured compared to that in Catalonia.

For someone at 30, likely signing his last big contract, that clarity is essential.
A significant victory for Barça
Securing a win over Real Madrid is rewarding on the pitch, but it feels even more gratifying off the field.
Los Blancos previously capitalized on Barça’s uncertainties earlier in the summer transfer window to sign Bernardo Silva.
However, the Catalans responded decisively, flipping the script in this window by bringing Rodri on board before Real Madrid had a chance.
While this move doesn’t guarantee success for Barça, it’s undeniable that Rodri significantly enhances an already strong squad.
Only time will reveal if this signing could be the key difference between Barça and Madrid this season.
