Shrewsbury Town has secured the signing of striker Joe Gbode on a season-long loan from Luton Town.
The 21-year-old began his career at Gillingham, where he made 58 first-team appearances before joining the Hatters last summer for an undisclosed fee.
Last season, he made five substitute appearances for Luton prior to being loaned to National League side Woking for the latter half of the campaign, where he netted four goals in 16 matches across all competitions.
Gbode‘s addition marks the seventh new signing for Salop during a busy summer transfer window, following acquisitions such as Arkell Jude-Boyd, Byron Pendleton, Isaac Fletcher, Jack Price, Jay Turner-Cooke, and Josh Davison.
Town manager Gavin Cowan praised Gbode’s speed, ability to take on defenders, goal-scoring talent, and his positive attitude.
“He’s not just a National League player; he’s an EFL player. His commitment to maintain his performance and development has been impressive,” Cowan stated on the club’s website.
“At just 21, he’s a striker with immense potential.”
Cowan acknowledged that while the majority of their transfer activity is complete, there is still work to be done in shaping the squad for the upcoming season, hinting that adjustments may be needed to accommodate further signings.
“We’ve completed most of our business early, which was a priority for us, though there’s still more to do. There may need to be some movement out of the squad before we can add more players, but we are actively identifying the right targets,” he added.
