Why Barcelona’s Defense…

This weekend, FC Barcelona heads to Balaídos for an important La Liga match, marking their final game before the international break in November.

Under the guidance of Hansi Flick, the team aims to secure all three points to bolster their title aspirations. However, they must first contend with a Celta Vigo squad, particularly a player who has consistently posed a challenge for them.

Iago Aspas: A Persistent Challenge for Barcelona

Year after year, the captain of Celta has emerged as a significant thorn in Barcelona’s side.

Iago Aspas, a former Liverpool forward, has an impressive track record against the Catalan giants, netting 11 goals in 21 league encounters. This statistic, however, only scratches the surface of his impactful performances that have often left Barcelona in trouble at Balaídos.

Despite being in a different phase of his career at the age of 38, Aspas’s threat remains substantial.

Aspas is currently taking on a versatile role at Celta, often alternating between starting and substituting to preserve his physical condition for crucial moments.

Celta Vigo’s coach, Claudio Giraldez, acknowledged Aspas’s notable history against Barcelona during the pre-match conference.

“Borja, Aspas, and Bryan have a strong scoring record against Barcelona; I hope they continue that trend tomorrow, as it will bring us closer to victory,” he remarked.

Barcelona’s defense has shown vulnerability this season against forward players who exploit gaps between defensive lines.

With this in mind, Aspas could pose a significant threat to the Blaugrana, especially given their troubling defensive performance that has cost them several points already this season.

Besides Aspas, Barcelona will need to remain vigilant against other potent attackers from Celta Vigo, as highlighted by Giraldez.
