Carrick hails his lad…

Michael Carrick, the head coach of Manchester United, has expressed admiration for the impressive career of his former teammate Danny Welbeck, although he wishes the forward would stop finding the net against his old club.

Carrick and Welbeck shared their early days at United, including a stint in the Premier League-winning side of 2012-13.

However, while Welbeck was a valuable asset during his time with United, he has been a persistent thorn in their side since his departure.

The 35-year-old striker has tallied eight goals against his former team, more than against any other club.

His most recent goal came as part of Brighton‘s second goal in their FA Cup third round match in January.

“He’s scored against us too many times,” Carrick remarked. “I still refer to him as ‘my lad.’ It makes me feel old to see him as an old man now.”

“I have immense respect for him. It’s fantastic that he came through here and made such a significant impact. To see him continue to excel at his age is a testament to his mindset and attitude, which are crucial for playing well into your 30s.”

“He deserves a lot of credit, and I’m truly happy to see him thriving in his career.”
