Milan and Inter have officially finalized the sale agreement for the acquisition of the San Siro Great Urban Function, which includes the Meazza Stadium and its surrounding area.

Milan has successfully purchased the San Siro area, incorporating the Stadio Meazza.

This sale was previously authorized by the Milano City Council in September, and today all required documentation for the transaction has been duly signed.

AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano have announced today the signing of the deed of sale with the Municipality of Milan for the acquisition of the San Siro Great Urban Function, which encompasses the Meazza Stadium and its vicinity,” stated both clubs in a joint press release.

“The plan for a new stadium along with the urban development project for the San Siro area signifies a fresh chapter for both the City of Milan and the clubs. This significant milestone indicates the shared goals of AC Milan and Inter, along with their respective owners, RedBird and Oaktree-managed funds, aimed at fostering long-term sporting achievements and investments that contribute to the sustainable growth of the clubs.

“The clubs have commissioned Foster + Partners and MANICA for the design and development of the new world-class stadium, as well as the masterplan for the surrounding area. It will adhere to the highest international standards and is set to become a new architectural symbol for the City of Milan. The project also includes establishing a new center of excellence, reflecting the sporting and cultural richness that embodies the San Siro district and the entire city, while transforming the urban space with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and accessibility.

“The transaction, executed through Stadio San Siro S.p.A., has secured financing from international banking firms Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan as co-lead arrangers, alongside the clubs’ banking partners, Banco BPM and BPER Banca.”

The majority of the existing Stadio Meazza is projected to be dismantled between 2031 and 2032.

The new stadium’s construction, however, is set to commence much earlier, as it will be erected adjacent to the Meazza rather than in its current location.

Work is slated to begin in the first half of 2027, with completion expected by 2031.

This timeline not only allows Inter and Milan a new stadium for the 2031-32 season but also positions the city of Milan to serve as a host for the 2032 Euros.
